What Is a Study Permit?

A study permit is an IRCC document authorizing foreign nationals to study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada for programs longer than 6 months. You must be accepted to a DLI before applying. Confirm your institution at the IRCC DLI list.

On-campus: Unlimited hours during school, full-time during scheduled breaks
Off-campus: Up to 24 hours per week during school terms; full-time during breaks
Spouse may qualify for open work permit if you're in a full-time Masters or PhD program

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

Programs 8+ months but less than 2 years: PGWP = same duration as program
Programs 2+ years: PGWP = 3 years
