By
Spousal sponsorship is one of the most common immigration pathways to Canada. As a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner to become a permanent resident.
Who Can You Sponsor?
- Spouse: Legally married partner — marriage must be valid in the country where it took place AND in Canada
- Common-law partner: Person you have lived with in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 continuous months
- Conjugal partner: Person in a conjugal relationship with you for 1+ year who cannot live with you due to immigration barriers
