G1 — written test, must hold 12 months (8 with approved course)

G2 — road test, must hold 12 months

G — full licence after second road test

Graduated Licensing System (GLS) mandatory for all new drivers since 1994.
International Driving Permits (IDPs) are valid for a limited time (usually 60-90 days after becoming a resident). You must obtain a Canadian licence to continue driving legally.
