Each province and territory in Canada has its own graduated licensing system. If you have a valid licence from another country, you may be able to exchange it directly depending on reciprocal agreements.

With 2+ years experience from a reciprocal country, you can exchange directly for a full G licence. Others must start at G1 but may skip the 12-month wait with proof of experience.

Graduated Licensing System (GLS) mandatory for all new drivers since 1994.

International Driving Permits (IDPs) are valid for a limited time (usually 60-90 days after becoming a resident). You must obtain a Canadian licence to continue driving legally.
